How to embrace getting older

There is nothing that makes you feel older than having children. Children are a blessing, and people tell you this every day, but then you find grey hairs and your changed pelvis starts clicking. Having a family may be a beautiful thing, but it really does make you feel your age. Here’s the thing though: everyone fears getting that bit older, knowing that age often means illness and brings you close to being elderly while your brain doesn’t feel it yet. Your body may even start lacking in certain vitamins and going through hormonal changes - whilst this is natural, you can of course try to reduce the effects by visiting specialists such as those at an ED Clinic Englewood (or elsewhere more relevant) or by consulting with your doctor on hormone therapies to make you feel more like your younger self.

The key to getting older and not feeling afraid of it is to embrace it. Whether you want it to or not, it’s going to come around, and instead of hiding away from it, you should be enjoying it! It’s a privilege to get to an old age these days, and if you can learn to celebrate your age you can get more comfortable with it. You’re not a kid anymore, but you may well have children of your own and you should be immersing yourself in them and their future and not panicking about your own! So, how can you embrace your age now?

Be Wise

You have time in your life right now, but that can all change in an instant. Depressing, right? Yep, but it’s also very true. So, while you’re taking each day as it comes, start living for yourself right this second. If you want to buy nose studs and get a new piercing, don’t dawdle over it, just go and do it. Take in every moment that you can and if you get the chance to be impulsive (in the good sense), then you should go and do it. You don’t get this day back, so embrace it while you can.

Free Yourself

Do you know how hard it is to look in the mirror and not say ‘I wish’, comparing yourself to someone else? No? It’s now time to start. You are your own person with your own hopes and dreams and it doesn’t matter how much Instagram or Facebook or any other platform online tells you that you should be this person or that person, you need to get comfortable in yourself instead. You may already be feeling that; it’s a perk of getting older – the older you get, the less you care about what people think of you. It’s a blessing!

Accept Yourself. You are a mother, a partner (maybe!), a daughter, sister, friend – you are also you. Despite all the people that you are to others, you have to be for yourself, too. You should be embracing this with everything in your heart, because there is no one else in this world who will love you as hard as you do, so acceptance has to happen to live happily.

Getting older isn’t a curse, even when you’re afraid of it. Teach yourself that there are others who wish they could be as old as you, and you’ll immediately feel like you have to embrace your age. Grey hairs and everything.
