Priory Farm Discovery Walk

August 17, 2016

I used to love going to Priory Farm when I was a kid. Back then it was mainly a fruit picking farm and garden centre. We used to go there every summer and pick our own strawberries, raspberries and cherries.

Although they still do grow some produce - at the moment they are growing marrows and plums, it is probably best known for the discovery walk, garden centre and farm shop.

Priory Farm is close to home, it's in South Nutfield not far from Redhill in Surrey.

Over the year they do different themed discovery walks, at the moment it is an Olympic theme, with a sunflower maze.

The walk costs £2.50 per person, you pay at Wendy's cafe, it's an extra £1 for an Olympic activity sheet and £1 for a bag of fish food.

The nature trail takes you through a course including Wendy's garden, watch out for the hidden sprinklers here.

There are clues along the way to help the kids fill in the activity sheet, including things to climb on, a tipi with a drum inside and of course the sunflower maze.

Further up there is a woodland walk, viewing platforms, tunnels a labyrinth and lots of plum trees.

The walk ends up at the pond, this part always amazes me. The carp are crazy, they all bunch up together greedily trying to eat all the food, so it is worth buying a bag.

There are lots of guinea fowl roaming around the farm too.

There is also a big wooden pirate ship for the kids to play on and food and drinks available from Wendy's cafe or you can take a picnic.

In the garden centre there is another cafe and a play area for kids and across the road is the farm shop.

I did see people with pushchairs doing the walk, but some parts are quite steep so I'd recommend using a baby carrier.

The walk is open from 9.30am Monday to Saturday and from 10.30am on a Sunday, I think they also do tractor rides on a Thursday.

It's a lovely place to visit and worth going back in October for the spooky pumpkin trail and Christmas for the grotto.
