How to save money on your home decor

It's no fun being a homeowner. You want a beautiful looking home, but you may not always have the purse size to accommodate your tastes in decor. It's worse when you pop over to your mates, only to come away with envy at the way they have decorated their homes. Still, while they were probably only too proud to show off their luxurious living rooms, they probably neglected to tell you that they were now steeped in debt as a result. Swings and roundabouts!

So, if you're on a budget, here are some tips that will save you from bankruptcy, while still giving you a lovely looking home.

Shop around

If you're looking to buy something new, it's always worth shopping around. Take advantage of any discounts online, keep an eye on the classifieds, and consider these places to kit out your home on the cheap. When you're online, sign up at your favourite websites for email alerts on sales, and create a wishlist on Amazon, checking it regularly for drops in prices from particular sellers.

Don't buy more than you need

Whatever you buy, ensure it's enough for what you need by sizing up your living space before purchase. You see, quite often, it's a case of the more you buy, the more you spend! You can buy custom curtains, carpeting, and wallpaper online or at your home improvement store, with sizes that will suit your needs and pocket. While you might always go for a little extra where carpets and wallpaper are concerned (in case you make mistakes when fitting them), you can still save money by cutting down on too much excess.

Craft your own decor

If you have skills in any kind of arts and craft, then go for the DIY option, instead of purchasing something similar elsewhere. Make your own decorations, paint a work of art, get busy with a needle and fabric to create your own curtains or sofa throws, carve something out of wood… wherever you have a little bit of talent, enliven your home with your creative works. Alternatively, if you have friends or family with abilities of their own, ask them to create something for you.

Breathe new life into existing decor

If you're bored of what you currently own, you don't have to replace everything. You could reupholster your furniture, using a range of different colours and materials to create something that looks brand new. Add a fresh coat of paint to your walls, and also consider painting shelving, cupboards, and mirror frames to give your home a new look and feel. And use accessories, such as throw pillows and blankets, to change up the look of your sofa and chairs.

Bring the outdoors in

You don't need to buy expensive items when there are natural products just beyond your front door that will add life to your interior. Using wood, stones, greenery, and fresh flowers, you can use your imagination to create something that looks fantastic in your home. And if your imagination is running low on ideas, you can get inspiration online from a variety of websites and blogs.

Finally, I hope these tips have been helpful to you, but if you have any money saving ideas of your own, then please feel free to share them with us.
