Which wood flooring should you choose for your home?

[Collaborative post]

When it comes to your home the floor is something that probably gets the most wear and tear - especially if you have children. There are so many options to choose from nowadays that it can be hard to decide what would be best for you. There are lots of things to factor in: Do you have pets? Do you like the comfort of carpet? Would you prefer something that is quick and easy to clean?

We now have laminate flooring throughout our home as we have kids and pets. It is easy to clean and we don't have to worry about stains from spilt drinks or muddy paws.

There is something out there to suit all budgets you just need to do a little research first.

A great alternative to solid wood flooring and better quality than laminate flooring is engineered wood flooring. Unlike solid wood the boards are made from layers of different timbers, making it more durable and resistant to moisture. The top layer of the board is the best quality wood giving it the look of more expensive solid wood.

Laminate flooring is a cheaper option, it is made of synthetic materials that have been compressed together and the top layer has been printed with a wood effect. Laminate is affordable and easy to lay but does not last as long as the above option as it can tend to start to warp after a while.

If you love to feel a carpet beneath your feet but find them hard to keep clean you could choose a big statement rug instead. I have seen so many designs that I love recently, under-table rugs seem to be very popular.

If our budget allows us to, I would love to change our upstairs flooring over the next year - the laminate floorboards outside our bathroom door have warped a lot due to a flood we had from our toilet a long while ago. It is a small space so it should not cost too much to replace.

Are you a wood flooring or a carpet fan?
