Exploring Tintagel

We love visiting Tintagel in North Cornwall, we've been there a number of times but had never done the coastal walk.

So, after exploring the local shops, which are brilliant, - check out Willow Moon, we wandered down by the Camelot Hotel towards Barras Nose.

Barras Nose is a headland at Tintagel, in the lee of the towering Tintagel Island and Castle ruins linked to the legends of King Arthur.

There are great views of the castle, beach and surrounding coastline from the headland.

Here you can see the remains of the abandoned castle, the mythical birth place of King Arthur.

The walk along the headland is steep at points and there are lots of steps down to the beach where you will see Merlin's Cave, believed to be the hiding place where the wizard protected the newborn Arthur from potential harm of the enemies of the Pendragon crown.

There are steep drops down to the Atlantic, so hold on tight to little children.

I'd imagine we walked about a mile in total, and sat down for an ice cream at the cafe afterwards.

There is a Landrover service which can give visitors a lift back up the hill for a small charge, but we are used to walking. We parked in a car park in town which cost £2 all day.

Tintagel is a beautiful place to visit. St Nectan's Glen and Boscaslte are just a short drive away too.

If you are looking for a great place to stay check out Emmy's Mummy's post about their stay at The Headland Hotel.
